If you are traveling there from Orange County, you will likely follow U.S. 9 West into Poughkeepsie and merge onto U.S. 44 East. From there, you simply turn left on Academy Street, go two blocks and turn right onto Main Street. The courthouse will be the first building on your left. Additionally, the Metro North Railroad provides train service to Poughkeepsie.
According to statistics provided by the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, a total of 10,620 bankruptcy cases were commenced in the Southern District of New York in 2012, including 9,513 non-business filings. The majority of cases were commenced under Chapter 7 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code – 8,316, or 78.3 percent of the total filings. Additionally, most of those Chapter 7 cases involved non-businesses – a total of 8,008, or 96.2 percent of the total Chapter 7 filings.
